Exclusive, personal and private.
The Kate Walker experience is exclusive, personal and private. I work on an 'appointment only' basis ensuring every bride receives the time and dedication they deserve when choosing their wedding dress.
It is important to me that my brides never feel rushed therefore every appointment is 1 ½ hours long with the boutique door locked to ensure no interruptions.
I will firstly discuss your own personal style and the style of your wedding over a cup of tea or coffee to gain a picture of your personality and your day as a whole.
After introducing you to my exclusive Kate Walker Collection alongside stunning gowns by Louise Bentley, Freda Bennet and Lou Lou, you will choose a capsule collection; then on with the dresses and time for fun!
As a bridal wear designer of 15 years, I will guide you through your chosen dresses expertly to ensure that the correct silhouette is found initially.
Once the silhouette is established the detail is added to suit your personality. My method of working is calm and organic and as a designer I am able to make many design changes to the dresses to ensure that every detail is correct.
I am searching for an individual 'recipe' for each bride as the requirements differ so widely from client to client and that’s what makes my job so exciting!
Located on The High Street in the beautiful market town of Honiton near Exeter, I have designed the bridal boutique to remain in keeping with its grade II listed character with a luxurious vintage feel where you will enjoy a memorable and inspiring experience.
Frequently asked questions:
Q. Do you charge for appointments?
A. No, certainly not!
Q. What is your price range?
A. Dresses range from £1000-£2500 with Kate Walker made to measure Bespoke gowns starting from £2000.
Q. When should I order my wedding dress?
A. Every dress is made to order. The ideal time frame to place your order is around 7 months before your wedding as it takes 4 months to make your dress and 3 months to carry out your fittings and alterations. Shorter time frames can always be accommodated however. Kate Walker Bespoke gowns take longer to make therefore placing your order 9-10 months before your wedding is preferable.
Q. How and when do I pay for my wedding dress?
A. On placement of order a 50% non-refundable deposit is payable and the balance due at your first dress fitting 3 months prior to your wedding.
Q. How many Fittings are required?
A. Usually 2 fittings are required, however a bespoke dress may require up to 4 fittings.
Q. Do I have to pay for alterations and how much do they cost?
A. Alterations are an extra cost to the price of your dress and the cost is variable depending on the level of work required. £100-£400 is usually an average cost. There are no alteration fees when purchasing a made to measure Kate Walker Bespoke gown as your dress is made in stages and the alterations are carried out during production.
Q. How and where is my wedding dress stored?
A. I provide and keep your wedding dress in a breathable bridal gown cover and store it free of charge until you wish to collect it. It is then pressed and wrapped with tissue paper ready for your collection day which can be as late as the day before your wedding if required.
Q. Who will dress me on my wedding day?
A. You should nominate 2 ‘dressers’ for your wedding day. I will teach them both at your final fitting exactly how to dress you on your wedding day and they will have the opportunity to practise with me. I also offer a dressing service for brides who would prefer me to dress them. This service is chargeable and distance may be limited to allow me to return to the boutique to carry out appointments on a busy Saturday.
Q. What should I do with my dress after my wedding day?
A. I can offer advice as to where to have your dress cleaned and boxed to ensure safe storage.
Q. Do you have a sample sale?
A. I don't ever have a specific sample sale but once a dress is ready to be moved on or has become discontinued it always discounted by 50% so it's always worth keeping an eye out for reductions.
